We want to encourage you to live the Italian lifestyle and live life slowly – live and enjoy each moment more! When you are travelling this is probably one of the best times for you to do so, as you are taking time from your busy day-to-day life. Being mindful is a great way to be fully present during your travels – it will make your trip more meaningful. So, today we wanted to explore being mindful and give you some top tips of how you can use this practice in your travels.
WHAT IS MINDFULNESS
“MINDFULNESS IS BRINGING YOUR AWARENESS TO THE PRESENT AND ACCEPTING WHAT IT IS”
Some of you may be wondering – but what exactly is mindfulness? Well, mindfulness is bringing your awareness to the present and accepting what it is. You see, with our lives being so fast-paced we tend to disconnect from our bodies and we end up living in our heads – leading us to let our thoughts drive the way we behave or the feelings that we have. So, when practicing mindfulness, it’s all about reconnecting with your body and acknowledging how our thoughts can lead us to act and feel things that aren’t helpful to the situation you are in. Overall, it’s all about training your mind to be knowing of what is going on internally and externally in yourself and your life, at each moment.
WHY YOU SHOULD PRACTICE MINDFULNESS
“STOP DWELLING ON THE PAST AND WORRYING ABOUT THE FUTURE – IT’S THE TIME TO THINK ABOUT YOUR PRESENT”
One of the greatest things about mindfulness is the wonders it can do for your mental wellbeing. It brings a sense of clarity to your life, as you’ll start to notice the patterns of your thoughts – training yourself to recognise when they’re taking over and reminding yourself that they do not have to control you. It allows you to stop dwelling on the past and worrying about the future – it’s the time to think about your present.
TIPS FOR BEING MINDFUL WHEN TRAVELLING
#1 – UTILISE YOUR SENSES
The first tip is simple but extremely effective at bringing your focus on the environment that you a currently in and all the sensations that are created by the world surrounding you. It’s a great way to interrupt that ‘autopilot’ mode that we mentioned and encourage you to look at life in a new perspective. Even more so when you are travelling – as you’re in a new place with new surroundings. Take time to breathe in the fresh air of the Italian alps, listen to the Italian’s conversing, watch the snow fall on the mountains. Each of these things will become picturesque memories, that’ll remind you of your experience here.
#2 - TAKE IT SLOW
We know that sense of ‘FOMO’ can kick in when your travelling and you try and squeeze as much into your itinerary as possible – rushing from one thing to another and never actually focusing on the experience you are having. Well, you should try and slow it down. Just take some time to really notice where you are and again really use all your senses to take in your surroundings and how they’re making you feel.
#3 - RELAX AND REST
Possibly one of the best things about travelling is the freedom it brings to you. You have no schedule to follow or any commitments that take over – you have time to do want you really want. So, we encourage you to take advantage of this freedom and relax. Forget about what you have going on at home and just enjoy your time away.
#4 - BE PRESENT
The last tip really ties all 3 tips together – be present! For being present is the greatest gift that you can give to yourself and anybody else for that matter. Try to focus on what is going on right now to prevent your thoughts from travelling to things that you cannot change – or things that haven’t even happened yet.
So, give these tips a try when you come and visit our boutique hotel - or on any of your travels for that matter. Allow yourself to fully enjoy your new surroundings and experiences, making memories you’ll never forget!
